Unreal is a First-Person Shooter made by Epic Games and Digital Extremes and released in 1998. It's the first game in the Unreal series. You are Prisoner 849, being transferred to a prison moon on a starship called the Vortex Rikers. The ship goes off-route and crashes on the uncharted planet of Na Pali. Unreal is a three-dimensional shooter from the Epic Games studio. Three years the developers worked on the Unreal Engine, then to release the game based on it and with the exact same name. Subsequently, Unreal became a series and developed until 2007. The developers managed to make their project one of the most innovative for its time. Something as simple as playing a.wmv or.mp4 file to intro into your game seems almost impossible! I have figured out how to use flat planes with static images and use the matinee to intro the game, but I want to play an intro video, and when it's done, load a level! The Unreal Engine is a game engine created by Epic Games. With the focus on powerful 3D graphics, this engine has been used to create many popular AAA games, including: Fortnite, Bioshock, Rocket League, and many more. Unreal Engine is the world's most open and advanced real-time 3D creation tool. Continuously evolving to serve not only its original purpose as a state-of-the-art game engine, today it gives creators across industries the freedom and control to deliver cutting-edge.

We've been anxiously awaiting the reveal of true next-generation gameplay ever since Microsoft and Sony confirmed that their next consoles would launch in 2020, and this week, we finally got it. On Wednesday, Epic Games shared a first look at Unreal Engine 5 with a real-time demo running live on a PlayStation 5.

Although this is not a preview of a real game, Epic says that the gameplay in the video (which we embedded below) is live game code that is playable on a PS5 development console. This isn't a pipe dream or a prerendered cutscene — it's a showcase of what the PS5 will be capable of achieving. That's not to say that games will look like Lumen in the Land of Nanite (the name of the tech demo) on launch day, but they might in the future.

In a detailed blog post, Epic explains two of the key technologies in the demo. One is nanite virtualized micropolygon geometry, which 'frees artists to create as much geometric detail as the eye can see.' Source art made up of billions of polygons can be imported directly into Unreal Engine 5, where it is 'streamed and scaled in real time so there are no more polygon count budgets, polygon memory budgets, or draw count budgets.'

The other technology is lumen, which 'is a fully dynamic global illumination solution that immediately reacts to scene and light changes.' No matter how large the environment is, Unreal Engine 5 will be able to scale to render 'diffuse interreflection with infinite bounces and indirect specular reflections.' In layman's terms, lighting is going to look incredible in the new engine, and it will be easier than ever for artists to work with.

Unreal Video Game Series

As for release timing, Epic notes that Unreal Engine 4.25, which was released just days ago, already supports both the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Game developers and publishers are working with Epic right now on building games for next-gen consoles with Unreal Engine 4. But in early 2021, Epic will make Unreal Engine 5 available as a preview, and plans to launch it in full in late 2021. In addition to PS5 and Xbox Series X, Unreal Engine 5 will also support current-generation consoles, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android, and UE4 projects can be moved to UE5.

Finally, Epic Games confirmed that Fortnite built in UE4 will be available on next-gen consoles at launch this holiday season, and that the game will be migrated over to UE5 in mid-2021.
